Life Lessons in 72 Hours – A Series About Personal Awareness and Self-Learning
Not too long ago, I spent 3 days in the hospital with severe migraine, and among other things, without the ability to walk. Because of the debilitating pain, I was not in a state where I communicated with others unless absolutely necessary. Therefore, I spent a lot of time in my own head. Something happened in those 72 hours that has shifted my thinking about life, work, purpose, and Faith.
I learned many “lessons” about life in general and my life. I learned that in spite of all my (our) gallant efforts who is NOT in control. When things happen around us, we can fight them or let them take us to a new and better place. Resilience resides in all of us to overcome fears (in my case claustrophobia) and that we all have a reserve of resilience that can help us rise to any occasion.
Our lives need balance, so does our body. When we get out of balance, we suffer, physically, mentally, and emotionally. In my case my body said “enough!” You WILL listen to me now! I was blessed to experience the healing power of gratitude. Gratefulness for all we have vs. lamenting the few things we don’t have has a great power to restore balance in our lives.
During this time, I benefitted from a good “knock on the head” and learned how to get up, and that seeking assistance isn’t a weakness but an act of love – for yourself and those around you. Healing is an iterative process that requires patience. It’s seven months, and I am still not physically healed, and there’s much more work to do for that. Mental & emotional healing can accelerate physical healing. Out of chaos purpose rises. It comes out of all we are, not just what the world sees. We have to be there and let it happen.
For me, faith has served as an unwavering guide throughout this ordeal. Even in the face of adversity, including the loss of my job, my faith remains steadfast, eradicating worries about the future. I am reminded of the biblical wisdom that proclaims, “All this is folly without action.”
In the coming weeks, I will delve deeper into these lessons, sharing how they continue to shape my ongoing healing process. It is my sincere hope that by sharing my journey, I can offer you insights and inspiration on your path toward becoming the best version of yourself. Stay tuned for the next installment titled, “If you think you’re in control, think again…then think again.” Together, let us embrace the transformative power of self-discovery and personal growth.
